Lady Leopards win in double overtime

Norphlet opened up its conference season Tuesday with a hard-earned 45-41 win over Stephens in double overtime. The Lady Leopards improved to 1-1, 1-0 while the Lady Roadrunners fell to 9-3, 1-1.
Norphlet led 31-18 late in the third before Stephens went on a 16-3 run, that included four 3-pointers. The Lady Roadrunners tied the game 34-34 on two free throws by LaTerrica Porchia with 1:03 left in regulation.
Stephens had the final shot but missed a 3-point attempt, sending the game into overtime. Trailing 38-36, Norphlet got the ball inside to Ellana White on an inbounds play and the senior scored with 28 seconds left, sending the game into the second OT.
Stephens scored first but Norphlet scored seven of the next eight points, including a 3-pointer by Yakema Tate, which gave the Lady Leopards a 41-40 lead. Kionna Stewart came off the bench to hit 3 of 4 free throws.
White led Norphlet with 16 points. Teneshia Lewis scored 12 and Tate added seven.
Nehkia McBride led Stephens with 17 points with Porchia scoring 13.
Strong 64, Hamburg 28
Strong jumped out to a 15-2 lead in the first quarter and improved to 2-1 Tuesday with the nonconference victory.
Anastacia Dismuke scored 26 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs. Maranda Parker scored 16 with Breuna Dixon and Ashley Parker adding nine and eight, respectively.
