Season Openers

Parkers Chapel opened up the 2006-07 basketball season Tuesday with a convincing 42-28 win over Nevada County. The Lady Trojans used a 3-D offensive attack, led by sophomore Dana Gray along with Destiny Harper and D'Atra Harper, who combined for 37 of the team's 42 points.
“They had the hot hands and we tried to get them the ball,” said Coach Mark Young. “We had some open shots for other people and they just didn’t go down. They sensed the need to take over with their athleticism and they did. Most of the baskets they made were athletic baskets. It was nice to have three players in double figures. I’m proud for that.”
Gray scored 17 points in her first senior high game. Destiny Harper scored 10 points with three assists and three steals. D'Atra Harper chipped in with 10 points off the bench.
Bridget Martin scored 10 for Nevada.
Woodlawn 33, Norphlet 31
WOODLAWN - Ellana White scored 11 points and Tanesha Lewis added nine points, but it wasn’t enough, as Norphlet fell at Woodlawn 33-31 in their season opener on Tuesday night.
After falling behind 20-9 at halftime, the Lady Leopards went on a 17-4 run and took a 26-24 lead in the fourth quarter, but Norphlet couldn’t hang on.
“We came out a little flat and got behind early,” said Norphlet coach Justin Welch. “They played really hard, but I wish we would’ve come out a little quicker.”
